This powerful social drama follows a couple who inherit a run-down farm. Taking on unemployed men and organizing the farm into a collective, they struggle to survive a drought and a visiting vamp from the city, who tempts the husband. The director, King Vidor, saw this film as a rural counterpart to his earlier film 'The Crowd.' He co-wrote it with Elizabeth Hill and risked bankruptcy financing it as well.
